Taiwan, a province of China

I was almost done with my subscription when I found that on your country list, Taiwan is listed as "Taiwan, province of China". This is ridiculous for a distinguished news organization such as the Washington Post. Taiwan is an independent and democratic country with its own government and popularly elected president and parliament. We are not a "province of China" and never in your news stories has Taiwan been identified as such, either.
Therefore it's a wonder to me why in the world do you list Taiwan as "province of China"? Is Chinese pressure so ubiquitous that even an institution such as the Washington Post that practices free speech in a free country has decided to yield and twist the fact?
I enjoy reading the WaPo and feel disappointed that I cannot even make a subscription without feeling insulted by your description of Taiwan as "a province of China". Please reconsider, and I look forward to a positive reply from you. Thank you.
